چکیده
Eruptionof permanent incisors (dentition) is used as aproxy for age for definingmeat quality inAustralian sheep meat. However, this approach may not be reliable. While not presently available, an objective method could be used to determine sheep age, and thus sheep category, which would then potentially remove any inaccuracies that may occur in classifying sheep meat product. Statistical classification algorithms have been successfully used in bioinformatics. In this paperwe review theperformanceof three algorithms (support vectormachines, recursive partitioning and randomforests) for determining sheep age.The algorithmswere applied to themeasured fatty acid profiles of fat samples from533carcasses; 254 lamb (<1 year old), 131 hogget (~1–2 years old) and 148 mutton (>2 years old) samples. Three data pretreatments (range transformation, column mean centering and range transformation with mean centering) were also examined to determine their impact on the performance of the algorithms. The random forests algorithm, when applied to mean-centred data, gave 100%predictive accuracywhen classifying sheep category. This approach could be used for the development of an objective test for determining sheep age and category.

Simplified gas chromatography of trimethylsilyl esters of C1 through C5 fatty acids in serum and urine.
All the metabolically important C1 through C5 fatty acids and lactic, pyruvic and fl-hydroxybutyric acids can be gas chromatographed surprisingly well on the common 2-meter 3% methylphenylsilicone (e.g., “OV-17”) column when a late-eluting silylating reagent such as trimethylsilylimidazole is used. In these circumstances, the trimethylsilyl esters elute in an interval that is free of the reagen...

Background: Trans fatty acids are known as the most harmful type of dietary fats. Food and Drug Administration (FAD) has announced that TFAs consumption should be reduced to less than 1% of energy consumption. The aim of this study was to compare the amount of fatty acids with emphasis on trans fatty acids of ghee (animal oil) and tail sheep. Materials and Methods: 10 samples of ghee and 5 sam...

Modern studies in the field of environment science and engineering show that deterministic models struggle to capture the relationship between the concentration of atmospheric pollutants and their emission sources. The recent advances in statistical modeling based on machine learning approaches have emerged as solution to tackle these issues. It is a fact that, input variable type largely affec...
متن کاملMilk Production, Milk Fatty Acid Profiles and Blood Metabolites in Holstein Dairy Cows Fed Diets Based on Dried Citrus Pulp
The objective of the present study was to determine the effect of substitution of corn grain with dried citrus pulp (DCP) on milk composition, fatty acids profiles and blood metabolites in Holstein dairy cows. These parameters were measured in a replicated 4 × 4 latin square design experiment using eight Holstein cows. Each experimental period lasted 4 weeks. The four treatments were: control (...
متن کاملEffect of Slaughter Weight, Carcass Weight and Sex on the Carcass Fatty Acid Composition of Boutsiko Breed Lambs
The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of slaughter and carcass weight, age at slaughter and sex on the fatty acid profile of the Greek Boutsiko sheep breed. Twenty lambs (ten females and ten males) were examined. The lambs were slaughtered at the age of 48 days. Carcasses were chopped in nine specific cuts and a random sample of 100 g was taken from each cut, with a total of 180...
